FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT MSBA CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION
1. Who is eligible to receive a free slot to one of the available MSBA CLE courses?
a. Volunteer attorneys are eligible for one of three (1 out of 3) free slots in exchange for accepting a pro bono case referral from a recognized pro bono legal services program.
2. Who can receive a reduced-fee slot to one of the available MSBA CLE courses?
a. Staff legal services attorneys (e.g., public defenders, prosecutors, Legal Aid Bureau, Public Justice Center, House of Ruth, etc.) may also register for one of three (1 out of 3) discounted slots offered at 50% off the regular course cost.
3. How can I get a free slot to one of the available MSBA CLE courses?
a. Volunteer attorneys who want a free slot should complete the MSBA Order Form and the Pro Bono Attorney Training Registration Form. When completing the MSBA Order Form, you should mark in the “Fee” column “volunteer rate.” Please submit both completed forms to PBRC. You will not be considered registered until you submit the Pro Bono Attorney Training Registration Form and the MSBA Order Form to PBRC.
4. How can I get a reduced-fee slot to one of the available MSBA CLE courses?
a. Staff legal services attorneys (e.g., public defenders, prosecutors, Legal Aid Bureau, Public Justice Center, House of Ruth, etc.) who want a discounted slot should complete the MSBA Order Form. You should mark in the “Fee” column “discounted rate.” Please submit the MSBA Order Form to PBRC. You will not be considered registered until you submit the MSBA Order Form to PBRC.
5. I can’t make it to the live MSBA CLE course that is available, but I see on the MSBA website that this course is available via webcast and/or Video Replay. Can I attend that instead?
a. No. The free and reduced-fee slots are only available for the live courses listed on the PBRC website HERE.
6. Can I receive a free or reduced-fee training slot for ANY CLE Course given by the MSBA?
a. No. The free and reduced-fee slots are only available for the courses listed on the PBRC website HERE.
7. I faxed my MSBA Order Form and my Pro Bono Attorney Training Registration Form to PBRC, but I haven’t received a confirmation email. Can I just show up?
a. No. You are not registered until you receive a confirmation. If you are unsure, please call Kiah Elmore at 410-837-9379 x3053 to ensure the receipt of your forms.
8. I am a volunteer attorney who wants to take a MSBA CLE course in exchange for my pro bono commitment. Can I take a pro bono case in a practice area unrelated to the MSBA CLE course?
a. Yes. Volunteer attorneys can take a pro bono case in any practice area related to civil matters.
